Early last Saturday morning a fellow Livestrong Leader and I set up a booth at the Beau Biden Foundation Trail Run, an annual event held at the Granogue Estate just outside Wilmington, DE. Over the course of five hours we had the opportunity to engage with 100 or so people, some familiar with the Foundation and others not at all. Most of the people stopping by had family or friends who had received a diagnosis. One woman had received her own thyroid cancer diagnosis and had been through surgery and other treatments, and was planning on running the 10K race that morning. Her story brought me to tears as she described training for a marathon and not getting faster or more fit and wondering what was wrong with her health and finally receiving her very unexpected diagnosis.
